January Pests in Florida
After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, January can seem slow and relaxing while you’re getting back into the groove of everyday life. Not here at Live Oak Pest Control – we know spring is right around the corner and we need to be ready to tackle the current and future pest problems.
As rodents continue to be an issue in January, there are other pests that join in on the action like ants and cockroaches. Don’t forget bed bugs are a year-round threat!
Ants
The first step to ant eradication is determining what species of ant you are dealing with; in Florida, there are over 70 species. After your ant problem is solved there are simple preventative measures you can take to stop ants from returning to your home or business. Seal all cracks and crevices. Clean your gutters. Keep yard trash free and trim tree limbs/bushes near buildings, keeping them at least 18” away.
Cockroaches
Living in Florida means tolerating the heat, the cold, humidity and cockroaches. Cockroaches are frequent visitors of our homes and businesses. Chances are living in Florida you’ve encountered one. Over 70 cockroach species live in Florida and not only are they a nuisance, they spread disease, damage food, clothing and books and are just gross. Bed bugs are a constant threat. With the high volume of travelers during the holidays, it can make bed bug problems worse. Bed bugs will hitch a ride on clothing, so your guests that traveled could bring unwanted guests that stay permanently.
