Keep your eyes and ears open when the temperature falls!

When the weather begins to cool and we begin to open our homes to friends and family to share in all of the holiday cheer, Thanksgiving and Christmas, there is also the possibility of some unwanted guest showing up as well. It is imperative that we keep an eye out for any particular pest problems that could arise because of the change in temperature.

The key is to keep your eyes open!

As you enter closets and attics to retrieve holiday decorations and other items, watch for signs of rodents or mice. When the weather cools rodents look for warm places to have their offspring. When you are bringing out those holiday decorations, some signs to look for are small droppings that are black to brown in color and also listen for noises in the ceilings at night, as possible signs that you may have a rodent problem. Some people don’t realize that rodents can often enter your home from an opening as small as a quarter. They will also travel along tree limbs to your home, so trimming limbs that may be touching your home can help with this issue and also save your shingles and walls from damage.

Ticks can be transported into the home by plants and trees as well as pets. Ants can also be a problem as they are also looking for a warm place to live during the cool fall and winter days and nights.
